Menus of a Mom

Just trying to get the family fed!

Sadly Sayonara

I think it’s time I hang this thing up.  Just short of 100 posts!  It’s been a lot of fun, sharing my triumphs and defeats with everyone, and getting to talk about some of my favorite topics, my daughter and food!  However, I’ve been struggling to devote time to it and I don’t think I’m adding much to the discussion any longer.

I hope someone somewhere has picked up a few tips that help them to create homemade meals for themselves or their families.  I hope someone realizes that it can be done, at least some of the time.  My biggest hope, though, is that we’ve learned that “homemade” is however you define it.  For me, homemade means made with love, and sometimes that means all fresh, organic ingredients, sweated over for hours.  But sometimes that means food that comes from a box, so I’m in a happy place and so I have a few more minutes to spend with my daughter.

Maybe I’ll pop in and post once in a while, and I still plan to answer questions and comments.  Also, I think it will be weird not taking pictures of our dinner every night now that I’m so used to it, so there could still be some random dinner photo dumps 🙂

It’s been kind of a crazy year, with a lot of ups and downs, a bit of an emotional roller coaster, and this has been, as silly as it may sound, pretty cathartic.  And now I can add being a blogger to my list of random…talents?… that’s not the right word.  My list of random labels, even if it was only for a short while.  Thanks everyone for reading!

Boog says bye-bye!

Mom’s Night Out – Thai Style

I went to an amazing sushi/Thai place last night with some friends.  I wish I would have taken pictures of the sushi as well – everything was so pretty!  Here are the main dishes:

Amazing Bangkok Chicken (peanut sauce)

Volcano Chicken and Jasmine Rice

Tornado Tofu (green curry sauce)

We’ll see if I’m ever brave enough to try something like these at home 🙂

Why am I doing this?

So, I’ve been thinking recently about the unending quest of moms (and dads!) to get their families fed in the “best” way possible.  Everyone defines “best” a little differently – some want the easiest, some want the cheapest, some want the most delicious, some want the most organic, some want only whole foods, and some are just looking to get 3 squares into their loved ones every day.

I don’t claim to have the answers, but I do try hard to make home-cooked meals for my family by planning out a menu every week and trying to find the best way to prep the food with an often hungry and always spirited toddler in the house!  I’ve learned a lot over the last 2 years, and I would love to learn more!

So, I’m going to try to post my menu every week.  Maybe it will give you ideas, maybe you’ll give me tips on how to better organize the food prep.  Maybe others will post their ideas.  Isn’t that what we all need, really?  Ideas so we don’t make the same 5 dishes every week or end up eating pizza every night (though I could.  I really really could).  And we need ideas on how to make it all fit in.  Maybe posting our menu every week will make me more accountable to not order that pizza one night.  But, no guilt if I still do.  All we can do is our best 🙂  And who better to learn how to make our best better than from each other?
